Camp Cory Day 2 – Trying something new, developing connections and discovering ourselves

November 2, 2011 in Exciting Stuff by admin

Day 2 of camp started with a delicious breakfast before we had students break out into individual inquiry stations!  Each of these stations involved a specific aspect of scientific investigation: developing investigatable questions, experimental design, data representation and modeling.  We had all four groups cycle through each of the stations, held by our amazing team of pre-service teachers!

After lunch, the girls, the pre-service teachers, the near peer advisors and leadership team all broke into exploratory YMCA activities!  Girls had a choice of climbing the rock wall, tie dye tee shirts, hiking, archery, zip line or just hanging out by a warm fire to talk and share stories.  Despite the rain and cold weather, our girls were total troopers and stuck it out – many of us wearing the ever-so-fashionable trash bag ponchos to stay fairly dry in the drizzly weather.

We had LOTS of fun trying new things that some of us had never done before!  Girls cheered each other on and it was an amazing experience where we all got to meet new people, try new things and bond with each other.  Later, girls reflected on their experiences during journal time, and sang the camp fire songs that we learned on their way back to school on the bus!
