A Trip to the Cinema Theater and the University of Rochester

On Saturday, January 28, the Science STARS boarded a yellow bus for an adventure in documentaries. The first stop was the Cinema Theater, where the girls saw their names in lights on the marque, got an exclusive tour of the projection room, and then had a private screening of a Myth Buster’s episode. After viewing this episode, the STARS got to work dissecting what they liked and didn’t like about the episode so that they could apply these ideas to their own documentaries.
Next, the girls headed to the University of Rochester where they split up into groups to think about the science behind their two issues: BPA and Texting While Driving. The STARS did research and made plans to perform experiments about their topics. They also looked at several examples of short documentaries and researched statistics about their topics.
Lastly, before heading home, the girls got out their cameras and hit the streets to do some interviews about their topics. Each group did about 5 interviews with college students that they found at the University of Rochester.
