Tips for using demonstrations to motivate & excite – remember this is more of a performance than a teaching/learning opportunity:

• SAFETY – cannot say enough about how very VERY VVVEEERRRY important safety is!!  Like Calvin said, TALK about it!  Kids need help in considering what safety means – don’t miss an opportunity to emphasize it (might help the teacher in the room too!)
• USE your people resources wisely – Make sure both of you are doing something productive all 10 minutes!
• Purpose – be clear on what your goal is with this demonstration – talk about it and articulate it with your partner.
• Planning – over-planning – dry runs for sure! – scripting – practicing – practicing
• Repeatability – demonstrations are best when kids can say “do that again!”
• Simplicity – Right?  Sometimes the best ones are the simplest – ping pong ball, pin hole, liquid nitrogen and plastic sphere – go team go!
