Ready, set………………..present!

July 29th, 2007

Hey you “guys” (Summer S., Summer D., Jordan, L.T. and Bryan, I mean)!

Hope you guys had a great weekend!

We’ve sure come a long way since opening day!  We’ve collected lots of data and on Friday you guys handled the graphing like seasoned pros.  You even managed to deceide what you wanted to include in your final presentations.

Now, are ready to do the very hard work of interpreting all that data we’ve collected?  Once we begin to sort it out and make sense of it, we’ll be ready to share it with the public on Wednesday.  Are you nervous??

Are you ready for the final push??

We think you are, and we think you’ll all do great. We have tons of faith in you guys because we know from experience that you’re a hard-working bunch of kids who aren’t afraid to get messy!!

Sooooooo, here we go into the final phase of being scientists………telling  the public what we know.  Ready, set, present!

Cassie, Genna, Pete and Steve

P.S. we included the drawing because it reminded us of Steve!  (smile)

Remember: time flies like an arrow and fruit flies like a bannana!

A message to the Green Group Students

July 26th, 2007

Hey you Group Green young folk!

Just wanted to tell you that Genna, Cassie, Steve and I think you guys were awesome today.  Why?  For starters, you listened well in the lab and learned to do wet mounts in no time at all.  Secondly, you were very brave during your Keynote presentations.  You weren’t afraid to answer questions and took your mistakes in stride.  Way cool.  Last, but not least, you each worked hard to sort out the real meaning of difficult words like conductivity and dissolved oxygen.  Heck, even older kids have trouble with the meaning of some of these words!

We’re proud of you and are looking forward to spending time with you guys tomorrow (Friday).

Till then………….see you guys around if you don’t turn square!!

The Group Green Old Timers (smile)

Get ready to start signing some autographs…..

Hello Green Lakeshore Investigators!

You all did a fantastic job today!!! Look at how much you all accomplished! WOW!

  • You came up with a great scientific question for our group to investigate (What is the difference between the algae water and the clear water?)
  • You constructed a data table together
  • You collected all of our data and water samples!!!
  • And don’t forget all the media coverage that our investigation got. I know that you all enjoyed talking with the people from the news…here is one news story about us from the internet.

Also, here are some of the great quotes that you all had in your journals today:

“We were on the news!” – Jordan

“I liked getting dirty!” -Bryan

“We also were interviewed by the news and talked about what we were going to do.” -Summer Smith

“I started to talk to the media about what we were doing. That was my favorite part.” -L.T.

Don’t forget to check out these pictures of our group getting down and dirty with our science investigation!!

There were some great ideas today in your journals! Here are the sections you wanted to publish on the website…

I learned what pH was and it was the measurment to see how acidy or neutral based the H2O was, something I’m looking forward to is going to the lab so we can fix Charlotte a better place to swim

-Jordan

Help us clean the water

-Bryan

The ’seawater’ had a high level in conductivity I can’t wait to measure the level in pH.

-Summer S.

Today I learned about Dissolved Oxygen. I found out how much of a difference the water would look like with and without it.

-Summer D.

I learned that turbidity means clear water It also means how to measure clear water

-L.T.

Here is a picture of the model we created today of the beach!
