Hi this is Ari,
Today in physics we went outside to test our “slingshots” to find out the angle at which the tennis ball’s range was the greatest. Before we did so, we made our own hypothesis. We tested for angles of 15, 20, 25, 30, 45, 55, and 60, and did three trials for each angle. The next step was to average the three trials for each angle, but we didn’t have time to do that. I glanced at the data for my group and it seems like the angle that created the most range was 30, but I’m not sure about the other group.

We learned about Adding Vectors.
Our example was kicking a football at a 30 degree angle, at 10 m/s….how high does the ball go.
We need to find Viy. Tehn use Viy to find dy.
With Sin, we determined Viy = 5 m/s. Then we did the following:
Vf^2 = Vi^2 + 2ad
0^2 = 5^2 + 2 x -9.8 x d
0 = 25 -19.6d
-25 = -19.6d
d = 1.28.
Here we are….We also did some OPR work.

Hey this is Ari blogging for Monday.
In class we talked about how what we’re studying right now (projectile motion) could be used in violent ways and how a lot of our examples are going to be violent. Ms. Watson gave us examples of people who had used their knowledge for good, but it still got into the wrong hands and created violent things like bombs (Einstein is one example). Other people like (Dr. Mengele) used their knowledge to hurt people. Ms. Watson told us that we would have to decide how to use the information that she gives us, and write a contract about it. Our homework was a worksheet due on Friday.
See you all in class,
Ari

Hey guys,
I just got an email from T.Sabo about the newly re-organized Food and Nutrition Council. And I feel it might make sense to have an OPR presence there. Or, potentially we leave them out of it and do the mason jar thing whether or not they’re into it.
Cheers,
Anne
There have been a variety of efforts regarding food, nutrition, and sustainability within the various schools (and district-wide) over the last several years. One such effort was the MHS Food and Nutrition Council. After speaking with Steve Metcalf about getting this group up and running once again, it was decided to make it district-wide.
Please consider this email an invitation to join the MPS Food and Nutrition Council on Tues. 10/28 at 3:00 PM (Room 208, MHS). Recognizing that a group’s mission can evolve, our starting point will be:
“The MPS Food and Nutrition Council strives to increase the social, ecological and nutritional quality of food consumed by the MPS community by making the food service system an integral part of the educational experience.”
If you have any questions, or would like to attend but cannot, please contact me.

So, I was wondering about this operation…
I was wondering how we’re planning on paying for the T-shirts, were we doing fundraising or were we going to take the money out of our pockets?
Also, were we going to order mason jars for ourselves or to give out or sell?
When are we going to start with the advertising? Are we still doing the taste test? Because i totally think we should.
yeah, thats it.

Howdy folks
Today we were reviewing the worksheet that was due for us… the worksheet included problems and a range of situations where we were solving for the acceleration and the velocity and what not. After we were done going over some of these problems we talked about the water bottle issues…we found out that Betty actually isnt fully on board with the whole shindig but not to worry… we will somehow persuade her… productive class… hope it goes just as well on monday
yours truly…

Hello again!
Today in class we learned about heat in all of it glory. Here are our notes:
CONDUCTION: Transfer of heat through matter, from particle to particle. Metal feels cold because it conducts hear away from the hand. Example: metal spoon in hot soup.
CONVECTION: Transfer of heat by movement of warm matter. Warm fluid rises and cold fluid sinks. Example: pasta in a bowl, steam from a hot beverage.
RADIATION: Electromagnetic waves (light) transporting energy through space. Examples: sunshine, red-hot glow of metal on stove.
R-VALUE: Measurement of thermal resistance.
After we took these notes as a class we brainstormed a list of fuel sources one would use to heat their house: Cord wood, pellets, #2 fuel oil, propane, solar, electric heat, kerosene, and geothermal.
Each student picked a fuel source to research and to eventually find dollar value per BTu of that source of fuel. If it wasn’t finished in class it was to be done for homework.

Hey this is Ari responding to that question…
Unplug all of the electronics when you aren’t using them
Don’t use hot water when you don’t need to
Don’t idle in your car
